Cheered me up...

It's so in this holiday season... :)

P.S. I hear it is actually very good exercise and all that... but this is still funny!

So, I am shamelessly stealing this idea from Erin. ;) With a week left until Thanksgiving, I thought it was fitting to share (a few) of the things I am most thankful for.

After events of this morning, I feel very thankful for my job. I am very fortunate to work in a position that is intellectually stimulating and with some reallly wonderful people. We are so lucky that we can afford for Mark to stay home with the kids right now. Although it won't be that way forever, the last 2 years have been invaluable and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Guess What Happens in a Fortnight?

Our court date! Whooooooo!

Oh, and don't think I used the term "fortnight" on accident! ;) Been looking for a way to "sneak" it into daily life... Yep, I'm a geek like that.

Anyways, I have to say that the wait for *S* is going much better (overall) than I did with our adoption last year. Not that I'm not anxious to get her home! I think I just have a much better handle on myself and the process. And being super busy does keep the days moving!

But now that it's getting closer... all bets are OFF!

My co-workers are throwing us a little shower for her tomorrow. So cool. Makes me excited all over again!

Keep your fingers crossed for us - so close!

First Snow

Abenezer and Hana arrived home on Easter Sunday of this year.  Sadly (for me!) there was still snow on the ground.  However, they never really got to "see" it snow really, or really play in it.

Today we got our first real-almost-kinda-snow of the season.  What a treat to watch them play!  It was really almost more like rain since it wasn't hardly sticking, but they had so much fun with it anyways...

99 Balloons

There... there just are no words. If you haven't seen this before, please take six minutes to watch it. Grab a tissue.

OAK BROOK, Ill., Nov 13, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Opportunity International, one of the world's largest microfinance organizations, today announced it has received a $1.2 million grant from the John Deere Foundation to provide increased access to financing for the hunger-afflicted in Africa.

Morning Thoughts...

First, thank you all for the well-wishes on my birthday. A big extra-thank you to Cris and Stephanie for babysitting! It was really nice to get out, even if just for a couple of hours and we really enjoyed your visit as well. :) All-in-all, my birthday (well, the entire weekend) was very nice - relaxed, low key. Just great!

This morning was a little rough for reasons I won't go into. Interestingly, I ended up reading
this post by my friend Lisa. It really spoke to me on several levels and I think it is something that every parent should read (although I think it is especially important for adoptive parents). So if you haven't checked out her blog, please do - its wonderful.

Happy Birthday to Cat!

I don't post very often but today is Cat's birthday and the kids had a few things to say...

When I asked Abi to say something nice for Mom's Birthday this is what he had to say: Happy Birthday Mommy! I love her and I made her a card and I love her and when she go buhbye, we miss her. And Mommy is purdy nice for me. And thank you mommy for [drawing] lions for me. And Amen.

Hana said: Mommy is so special and does good job and I hope Mommy has a good present. I like for Mommy to have special money. Ummm, Mommy is so good. I love Mommy. That's all.

Grace said: Mommy is very special to me. More special than any toy I ever had. I would be very sad without her. I just think she is just a very special mother. She is very smart and I just love her very very very much!

If Ally could answer I'm sure she would echo the statements above... only with much more INFLECTION and FLARE!

As for me I think there truly is no better mother and wife in the world. Our kids adore her and look up to her example. She has the biggest heart and the most compassion for others. I thank God for her every day.

PS. Ally has a very special gift for Mommy this year...

Crazy Dreams...

Apparently Abi is quite the little ninja in his dreams... and apparently not a fan of Spiderman.

(as recounted to Mark this morning) :

Dad: Abi, here is your (Spiderman) underwear.

Abi: I no want it.

Dad: Why not?

Abi: I no-e-like espiderman.

Dad: Why not?

Abi: Ummm... Daddy, last night, I sleepin, and then, I fly, and then, I see espiderman, and I go like dat! HY-YA! And him dead.

Dad: Why did you kill Spiderman?

Abi: I no-e-like espiderman.

Dad: Abi, we're not supposed to kill people.

Abi: Why not?

Dad: Because its not very nice.

Abi: But I no-e-like espiderman and I no wanna wear him.

Dad: Just put on your underwear so we can go eat breakfast.

Be afraid, be very afraid...

Conspiracy Theories

So, after our fiasco of problems with Abi and Hana's adoption, it has been hard for me to really 'gear up' for the Dec 3 court date. I am trying to be optimistic, but still sort-of preparing for the worst. So far, we are hopeful that things will go well.

But sometimes, I just wonder if someone is out to get us. ;) We found out this week that, even though we received our 171h weeks ago, the embassy is saying that they don't have our immigration approval yet. Sigh.

This is actually pretty standard and it is very good we are dealing with it early. Basically, it is just sitting *somewhere* and they need to find it. But still - why can't things go off without a hitch??

So, wish us luck this all gets resolved easily! I'm not too worried or anything, but I'll feel better when I know the approval is in the hands of those that need it!

Saturday Night Photo Shoot

We built our first fire of the "chilly" season on Saturday (even though it was hardly chilly - we are having wonderfully unseasonably warm weather!).  The kids were so cute that we snapped a few photos.  Even Ally cooperated (mostly).

Happy Halloween!

Pre-pumpkin carving dance party.

Grace is an old hat at pumpkin guts these days...

Hana was ALL about the squishy-ness and got right in there!

Abi did NOT enjoy touching the guts while in the pumpkin and would not help scoop them out.  But he did gush them in the bowl (...?)

Ally would have nothing to with the pumpkins (she didn't even want to sit near them) so she just squashed the cat instead.

Happy Halloween!

I took the day off work (mostly).  The older girls had a half day of school (well, Hana always does) so we went up to watch their "parade" of costumes. So cute!

Mom and Al waiting for the kids.

Daddy practiced camera settings on Abi while we waited. :)

Grace perfecting her "scary" face.

Hana lookin' sweet.

Halloween afternoon.  Ally post-nap.  Share the progression with me...

Above:  Sweet, bit tired.

The fun begins to wear thin...

Sobbing. (this entire process took less than 30 seconds and she was fine!)

Pre-trick or treating.  Waiting oh-so-patiently for the other members of our group

(Ally was scared of the pumpkins so wouldn't sit by them for her photos)

Post-trick or treating-candy binge-Spongebob marathon.
